Entry: Celebrating Karva-Chauth Monday, October 29, 2007

Todays Karva-Chauth, a festival widely celebrated by North Indians. The most important aspect of this day is that a dawn to dusk fast is undertaken by the ladies and seeing the moon they finally break the fast. The fast is unique perhaps because nowhere in the world does a wife go without food or water just to pray for the longevity and well-being of her husband.
Now even unmarried girls observe the fast for their fianceé or the boy-friend.

Nowadays, rituals have been modified, as it is not always possible to see the (future) husband before breaking the fast. Subsequently, the fast is broken using the photograph or a telephone call.

Some hostel bites on this occasion

One miss observed the fast for her bf.. in the afternoon hunger overtook love :P and she had her lunch.. in the evening (9 pm) her love calls her and informs that he is going to break his fast now..the gal is overwhelmed with guilt!

Another love-bird observed the fast for her bf.. was found searching red bangles in the hostel..:) Hostel lassies were too intruding to suggest that she should search for red saari as well, to impress her guy!

Another species kept the fast for her love of life, even tho they are separated by time, circumstances and misunderstandings & many mores! And she refuses to call him her Ex!

All kinds of people…

Happy Karva-Chauth to all those who celebrated or is celebrating it today!!! :)
